Board Certified Family Medicine Physician

Resident in Aerospace Medicine

Lieutenant Commander Rock is a native of Maryland. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland College Park. From his rate of Construction Mechanic Second Class, he was commissioned through the Health Professions Scholarship Program in August 2007. He obtained a Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011 from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York.

After medical school, LCDR Rock returned to Virginia and completed an Internal Medicine internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. He was then assigned as a General Medical Officer to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Five in Port Hueneme and participated in the unit’s Pacific Command deployment based out of Okinawa, Japan.

Returning to Graduate Medical Education, LCDR Rock graduated in 2017 from Naval Medical Center Pendleton Family Medicine residency, becoming board certified in Family Medicine the same year. He was assigned to Branch Health Clinic Sasebo Japan (now Naval Medical Training Unit Sasebo), where he was the Senior Medical Officer. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic at the time of his expected rotation, he was assigned as the Covid-19 “czar” and medical advisor for Covid operations until his departure in July 2020.

After arriving at Naval Hospital Bremerton, LCDR Rock was selected as Department Head of Family Medicine. Over the next 20 months, he deployed three times. First in support of the MHS Genesis roll-out at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, second to Bahrain in support of Operation Allied Refuge, and finally as part of Defense Support of Civil Authority to Farmington, New Mexico, in the role of a hospitalist to an underserved area experiencing a COVID-19 surge. LCDR Rock was then selected for Residency in Aerospace Medicine (RAM) and is currently attending flight medicine training in Pensacola, FL, before starting the residency.

His warfare qualifications are Seabee Combat Warfare and Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. Personal awards include Navy Commendation and Navy Achievement Medals, Expert Rifleman and Expert Pistol, and various other unit and campaign awards.
