Pediatric ASTHMA Classification:

Intermittent

   <= 2  days/week of sx: wheezing & coughing

   <= 2 times/month of NIGHT sx

Persistent

   day sx more than 2x/week or night sx more than 2x/month

Mild Persistent: more than Intermittent, but still:

   < daily sx

   < weekly night sx

   Flare-up may affect activity

   PFT >= 80%

Moderate Persistent:

   daily sx

   weekly night sx

   Flare ups last several days, may affect sleep

   PFT 60-80%

Severe Persistent:

   daily & often sx

   sx limit activities and disrupt sleep

   PTF < 60%

   Least common
